Going to Capiz State University, Philippines

There are always new places to go fishing. For them, there's always a new places, always a new horizon to catch.

Saturday, September 9, 2023 was my departure day. After I finished packing all of my things, I and my family went to Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport around 4 PM. I gathered with my two friends, Nisya and Wawa. My college friends also came to take me to the airport. We took pictures together, and I said goodbye to my family before i went inside to check in.

Boarding at 7 PM, we went to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tanggerang, Indonesia. That was about 1 hour flight. Arriving in Tanggerang, we waited for our international flight to Philippines. I was very excited because it was the first time i would step foot in a new place, abroad. Here, we met friends from Muhammadiyah Purwokerto University, Ega, Laras, and Farhan. They also had the same flight as us. So, we waited together.

After waiting for about 4 hours, we boarded to get on the plane. We went to Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines. After about 5 hours flight from Indonesia, we finally arrived. I was happy to finally be here. After claiming our luggage, we had to wait for our next flight to Roxas City, Capiz. So, we strolled around Parañaque City and Pasay City.

Parañaque City and Pasay City are two cities located in the same region, namely Metro Manila. Metro Manila is the political, economic, social and cultural center of the Philippines, and is one of the world's largest metropolitan areas. So we strolled around, tried lunch and dinner at jollibee for the first time, communicated and talked with Filipinos, and many more. We had a great time before we headed back to the airport for our onward flight on the next day.

The next destination is Roxas City. After about 1 hour flight, we finally arrived at Roxas Airport at 6 am. After claiming our luggage, we went outside of the airport. Honestly, I was suprised to see the CAPSU family already outside of the airport to fetch us. That was the first time I met three people from CAPSU Tapaz, namely Sir Merlito, Maam Leccio, and Aliemar. We took photos together and then went to CAPSU Tapaz, the satellite college where I was placed.

It took about 2 hours from Roxas City to Tapaz by CAPSU Tapaz van. While on the way to Tapaz, I chatted and exchanged stories with them about Indonesia and the Philippines. It was so fun that the long trip to Tapaz didn't feel like it.

Tapaz or the Municipality of Tapaz is the most southwestern municipality and also the largest municipality in the Province of Capiz. There are 6 CAPSU satellite colleges and one of them is located in Tapaz (known as CAPSU Tapaz).

After I arrived at CAPSU Tapaz, Sir Merlito told me that there would be an opening ceremony and welcoming me as a SEA-Teacher student in CAPSU Tapaz. Then I prepared myself and went to the gymnasium, where the event was taking place. There were so many students there who welcomed me. I gave a short introduction and speech and they were suprised knowing that I can speak english.


The event only took 1 hour and after that I got toured around CAPSU Tapaz with the two of the CAPSU Tapaz students, Danieca and Hannah. They showed me around while explaining each room we visited. I met a lot of CAPSU Tapaz lecturers and employees, also the students. They were so kind and welcoming me like I'm one of the member of CAPSU Tapaz family. After the long tour, I went to my room to rest.

And that's how the first time I met CAPSU Tapaz family.

Teaching Plan

A good plan is like a road map. It shows the final destination and usually the best way to get there. Three days I had the opportunity to observe in mathematics classes at Tapaz Central Elementary School (TCES), and now it's time for me to shine. That's what the teachers at TCES, my kind and lovely mentor, Maam Diña, and my buddy, Reynante, said. I already observed how teachers in TCES teach in class, and it was my turn to practice teaching. So, before that, besides having to prepare myself, I also have to prepare a lesson plan and learning materials in order to teach optimally. Teaching Practice

By learning you will teach, by teaching you will learn. The lesson plan is done, the learning materials is done as well, now I am ready for my final demonstration. I went to TCES early in the morning to prepare my instruments, learning materials, and the classroom that would be the place of my final demonstration. I cleaned the class, checked the monitor that I would use for showing my Canva Presentation Slideshow, and put my copies of lesson plan on the observers' table. After I made sure everything was fine and ready, I sat for a moment, focusing myself while waiting for all the observers, teachers and my CAPSU Tapaz friends to arrive. After waiting a while, they came and I could start teaching. I had 50 minutes for teaching. I divided the time by three, 15 minutes for opening activities, 30 minutes for core activities, and 5 minutes for closing activities. I prayed first, then started teaching. Joining SEA-Teacher

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and indeed the same thing happens with mine. Whatever I do, wherever I go, whoever I meet, anything starts with my decision. And this is how my journey has been going to be able to join the SEA-Teacher programme. April 3, 2023, I got a call from my supervisor, Mrs. Weni Dwi Pratiwi, S.Pd., M.Sc. who’s also the head of the mathematics education department. She informed me that I was proposed as a delegate to take part in a student exchange programme to the Philippines (yes, I didn’t know the programme she was talking about was SEA-Teacher). Tapaz Central Elementary School

School is a building which has four walls with tomorrow inside. Tapaz Central Elementary School (TCES) is one of the elementary public schools in the Municipality of Tapaz. TCES is located in Brgy. Poblacion, Tapaz, Capiz, close to Tapaz Municipal Hall. Same with Tapaz National High School, the biggest national high school in Tapaz, TCES is  also the biggest elementary public school in Tapaz. Built after the end of the World War II, TCES has been serving as a pioneer of elementary education in the Philippines, especially Tapaz for 78 years. And this year, 656 pupils with details of 345 male pupils and 311 female pupils trust TCES to provide the best 6 years of elementary education. Center of Academic Excellence Delivering Quality Service to All. "Pag Abi-Abi: A Welcome Program for SEA Student-Teacher" was the beginning for me to start new activities at Tapaz. After the warm welcome, Danieca and Hannah, 4th year students, took me on a tour of CapSU Tapaz. They showed, explained and introduced me to all of the family of CapSU Tapaz, and this is how it went. Capiz State University (CapSU) is the only one state university in Capiz Province, Western Visayas Region. Before becoming CapSU, there was a history of unifying several universities into one until finally CapSU was formed. President Ferdinand E. One book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world. I started my class observation in week two. I had the opportunity to observe mathematics learning activities in two grades, those are grade 4 and grade 6, and also with two different teachers. mathematics in grade 4 is taught by Mrs. Kristine Pearl S. Alberca, and grade 6 is taught by Mrs. Grace M. Gleyo. They both have few different characteristics and ways of teaching, but overall, they all look the same. Before they start to teach in the class, they prepare the lesson plan first. In TCES and also part of Department of Education regulation, time allotted per subject as well as the competencies is 50 minutes. It is mandated and stated as curriculum guideline. There is no age limit for learning. If you have the willingness and the correct attitude to learn something, age becomes just a number. In Philippines, there is one official department responsible for regulating the course of education in the Philippines. That is the Department of Education or DepEd (in Filipino: Kagawaran ng Edukasyon). This executive department of the Philippine government responsible for ensuring access to, promoting equity in, and improving the quality of basic education. Same with other government departments, DepEd is spread across all regions (DepEd Regional), province (DepEd Division), and Cities and Municipalities (DepEd District).
